Netflix is offering a cornucopia of new streaming options for subscribers to enjoy in the comfort of their homes or on their mobile device of choice this August. From original shows to top-notch films, Netflix has a massive number of compelling offerings lined up. Read on for all the highlights, then scroll down for a full list of what’s new on Netflix.
Several popular house-produced projects debut this month, including The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, season 3 of GLOW, and season 3 of Dear White People, as well as the fourth volume of Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj.
The streaming giant also has a wealth of entertaining films and series not produced in-house on tap this month, including the first five films in the Rocky franchise, classic comedy Groundhog Day, and season 6 of The 100.
Our top picks for August
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
Netflix returns to the setting of Jim Henson’s landmark 1982 fantasy film The Dark Crystal for this prequel series that explores the time leading up to the events of that film in the land of Thra. The ten-episode series recreates the brilliant puppetry that made the movie such a unique project, and follows a trio of Gelflings who discover the horrifying secret of the Skeksis’ power.
GLOW: Season 3
The critically acclaimed comedy series inspired by the women’s professional wrestling circuit of the 1980s returns for a third season, bringing its cast of colorful characters to Las Vegas this time around. With their shows’ success, the wrestlers and everyone around them must now contend with the pressures of fame and (quickly changing) fortune in the city where everything is a gamble.
Dear White People: Season 3
Change is in the air for the students of Winchester University as the critically acclaimed series enters its third season. Based on the 2014 film of the same name, the show has earned heaps of well-deserved praise for its exploration of race relations on college universities and throughout the U.S. The new season promises to bring in quite a few fresh faces while taking familiar characters in unexpected directions.
As usual, August is your last chance to watch a variety of shows and movies before they leave Netflix. Be sure to catch the first four Final Destination movies, as well as 2007 Oscar winner No Country For Old Men, and the surreal Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Below is the full list of everything new coming to the streamer in the month of August, and everything going away. Boldface names signify more of our favorites to help you load up your binge queue.
